Development Resistance Information Program
Ask anyone in the residential development world and they'll tell you "Shorewood is a developer city, not a resident city." We'd like to think the city would look out for our interests but the reality is - they don't.
What can you do if a bad development is proposed for your area? There are ways to fight back, but it's hard to know what to do, especially because time is short and the city will stonewall and resist. That's why we're creating our Development Resistance Information Program (DRIP) - together, we can change how Shorewood thinks about residents and developers.
What's In The Drip?
Based on our own experience and advice from experts, our program helps with:
-
Information - the Data Protection Act is your friend, it can be used to get information from the city that's critical to your resistance. Use it often. But be aware - the city will resist, we've had to send 5 demands to get information that is clearly required. Expect to be persistent. We can help. There's a lot of sausage making they'd prefer for you not to know.
-
Attention - the city counts on divide and conquer. But your neighbors DO care, if you can get their attention. We can help with:
-
Website creation, and display in keepshorewoodbeautiful.com;
-
Online marketing - advice on SEO, email, paid and social strategy;
-
Offline marketing - we can help you get yard signs, banners, postcards, buttons, whatever you think you need;
-
Voice - we'll help you reach our audience and build your own;
-
-
Environmental review - we can help with you strategize your Environmental Assessment Worksheet petition and get the signatures you need;
-
AI - it's amazing what AI can do, we'll share how we've used it to make up for not having a huge budget for engineers, lawyers, etc.
-
Expert referrals - you'll need help and we'll share information on who we've found;
-
Legal challenges - there ARE legal avenues to address bad city decisions. In the olden days, back before 2025, these challenges required an expensive lawyer. But with AI and some friendly conversations from people who've been there, legal remedies are feasible for almost anybody;
-
Strategy and learning - the city doesn't operate like most of us would like or expect. We bring together the feedback from many people who have gone toe to toe with Shorewood City Hall so you know what to expect and can plan your resistance;
-
Accountability - at the end of there day, things won't change until the people in charge change. There are people at the city who care about residents, just not enough. We'll help you know how to vote for change.
Questions?
-
Sounds great, what's it cost?
Nothing! Whatever we can do is free (you'll have to pay for anything you decide to buy from someone else). We love Shorewood and don't want it to become little Eden Prairie.
-
Can you give us legal advice?
No, but we can help you find a lawyer.
